Greetings, all. We are preparing to christen our new C-36 mkII soon and are seeking suggestions on the "proper" way to christen her. (Yes, we really want a ceremony...) So far, here is the best advice I have found: "Perform an elaborate ceremony presided over by a holy person of your own denomination in which the new name is blessed, the best quality Champagne and other liquor are liberally poured on the boat, into your friends, and most importantly, straight into the water for Neptune himself." Any comments or suggestions? Thanks! Bob.

1st start with Dom Perignon ; 2nd add Bikini Clad

Boat babes, 3rd Mix the two liberally....<g>.... Congratulations....Great Boat !! Are you buying it new or are you recommsioning (a whole other ceremony where it is very important to appease King Neptune and the other gods of the sea). Here is the URL that gives the detailed ceremony http://www.48north.com/aug97/denaming.htm By the way did you know it is considered good luck to keep a few coins under the mast. Old time sailors beleived that if the boat did go down with you in it, then the extra coins would help pay your way into thru the gates of paradise.. I haven't yet had a chance to dename my boat (just got it and haven't even received documentation papaers yet...but I beleive King Neptune gives a year leeway in these things).....I'm superstitious enough that on my old boat I kept a quarter and 1 Garden State Parkway token......I figure that would get me anywhere I needed to go ;-)

Christening the boat

First thing above all, have lots of fun with your party!!! Now, the champagne is great for you, but the boat needs a red wine for its blessing. It representents the blood of the virgin mother and was used by sailors on old. (If you want to be a traditionalist). Have a great party and good luck, fair winds, and smooth sailing. Capn' Odie

Careful of that red wine

Probably won't be a problem with such new gelcoat but red wine can stain! And don't skimp on whatever libation you do choose - Neptune doesn't like a cheapskate! He doesn't mind you getting Cook's for yourself but whatever you sacrifice to him *has* to be primo. :) LaDonna
