Hunter 1989 Lake Hefner, OKC
Dear 1989 Hunter 30 Owners and other resourceful members:

I am having a trailer built for my 1989 Hunter 30. The boat is 200 miles away. The fellow building the trailer has been building trailers for 20 years in the Oklahoma City area. He has never built one for a Hunter 30. He does not know what the boat looks like beneath the water line and I have only seen the boat out of the water once. Casually, he tells me he doesn’t really need to know many details; but, I feel certain it would be nice if he had some measurements AND Pictures to look at.
Please, does anyone know where I could obtain a picture or pictures of a 1989 Hunter 30 out of the water? My email address is: steveebryant@att.net and phone at 405-401-5369.
I would also very much appreciate dimensions if you know some place where I might obtain them.
The boat has a wing keel and the draft is reported at 4’3”
For example, I would like to know:
1. The distance from the water line to the top of the cabin.
(The boat is 200 miles away. The owner has no pictures; I will ask him to see if he will be able to provide this measurement.)
2. The width of the fin on the keel?
3. The length of the mast? (I will contact the owner tomorrow to see if he has this measurement.)

If you would have other measurements or a source for drawings, I would appreciate it. I know some boat manufactures and chat rooms for other makes of boats typically have a quick reference data base for this type of information. Do we have such resources for the Hunter 30, 1989?

Thanks,
Steve

You might get a better deal on a new or used trailer at Spurgeons at Stockton Lake in Missouri. They know your boat and could qoute you a price if you gave them a call.

Curious what type vehicle you're going to move it with and hope you've checked on permits and other legalities to move a wide and/or oversize load. That wing keel is fairly wide and you have to be carefull not to bend winglets. Majority of weight must rest on the keel with support at areas where internal bulkheads exist fore and aft. One set of supports should be just forward of mast step where bulkhead for forward v-berth meets the hull and another set aft, lined up with the companionway where the bulkhead that forms aft section of main salon, engine compartment, and companionway steps.

Are you aware that this boaat weighs in at 10500 pounds? It is ove r 10 feet wide. As has been said, there is much to consider.
I have aphoto of my 1993 30T on its cradle and on a travel lift. I will include it here iif I can muster the to skills necessary to do so.

Spurgeons trailers

I can highly recommend the trailers from Spurgeons. They built the trailer for my 1984 Hunter/Quest 30. The boat sat for a year on the trailer during the construction phase and then I used it to move the boat to/from my house to a local inland lake. The boat is now permanently at Lake Erie but it spends the winter on the trailer.

As one other poster has said, there are two main problems trailing a boat of this size. One is the tow vehicle, I had a 1980 Jeep Wagoneer and the legal permits and signage. In my case it was worth the hassle.

Regards
