I have a below-deck A/P 6000plus with a rotary drive unit with a chain going up vertically behind the wheel and mounted on the spindle. The sprocket and flange behind the wheel keep sliding off the spindle despite the two set screws that are supposed to keep the flange on the spindle. The SS shaft is too hard for the set screws to bite. Should I try drilling a small hole in the shaft for the set screws to bite into or is there another technique? Has anyone else experience this problem? Yesterday, it actually backed out enough for the flange and sprocket including the chain to fall down with a large bang, during a 30 kt wind. Thanks.

Lee,

I have the same setup. You might have luck with some loctite on the threads. I had a similar problem on the rotary drive sprocket when we bought the B381 in 2010. No issue since. If the threads are worn, you may have to retap the hole.
