I noticed that my dodger snaps were getting harder and harder to remove. Then, I broke a snap on the companionway cover. Time to find a solution.
I know there is a special "snap lube" available but I am too cheap to spend 8.00 box on it plus shipping so...
Burt's Bees lip balm. Natural product. I stuck some on the deck snap and presto. The snap worked like new. Looked around and found plenty of snaps and zippers to lube. They all work better than new.
Then I remembered that my porthole lenses were stuck to the gasket every time I opened the boat and wanted to vent it. I had to use a screwdriver and pry the lenses carefully from the gasket. Well paint me blue and call me handy. Out came the Burts Bees chapstick and presto. No more sticking lenses to the gasket. As a matter of fact, I have to jump back not to get hit by the lens as it springs open when I release the last dog. The drawback is that I have to be fast with my pan trying to catch that residual water there is always in the frame to keep it from the cushions.
Noticed last weekend that the drawer in the aft cabin was not sliding properly.
. Yup, you gess it. A little chapstick on the underside runners of the drawer did the trick. Then I moved on to the galley drawers. They all slide great now.
I made this item a part of my tool box.
