I heard somewhere long ago that renaming a yacht is bad luck. Does anyone out there know of the alleged tale and the proper way to do this? I might have it wrong but it seems something was said about take old name off and then have a toast to the old name. Then a toast to the new name and then put the new name on. "And after all the toasts do not go sailing or drive". Thank You.

My thoughts...

Scott, I'm glad you asked and feel free to ask any other questions too. I think it's good to re-visit topics sometimes because it gives newbies like me a chane to chime in. (If we never re-visited topics and just went on archives, we might as well close this site down and live on archives?) As a newbie, I renamed my sailboat and have great luck ever since! The new name now fits my personality and my boat's new paint scheme (from white to red) and all the additions (tiller to wheel conversion) I've added. I think this helps to justify the name change. please feel free to re-ask old questions so that newcomers like me can take part in this great site. Kev SecretSailor Houston - Maine

JimQ26 1/3 of your currently active posts are

scolding people to read, or check the archives. We really try to play nice here and if you don't have the patience to make with friendly answers that's ok, but in that case just don't bother yourself.

Google

Wow- JimQ26 must have really teed off as his post is now gone. Google Renaming + boat and you will find several good suggestions for a ceremony that is of course only an excuse for a party. Isn't that what boats are for?

Im still looking for a name for my hunter 23.. im hoping something will strike me. in the meantime I've un-named.."keeled over" just didnt seem safe to me! (plus it was convenient to remove the lettering while cleaning up the hull) ..but yeah. Is a nameless boat bad??
