I have a new h260 and love it... I've had no problems and love to sail her. The cam cleats were a pain, so I installed the 1" risers and now they're a dream, even my wife likes them. Now, the problem, or concern... Many marina's have live aboards... and night is a time for sleep and quiet. I was taught to hook the haulyards away from the mast, so the haulyards would not slap the mast all night. I have a mast light and that's it. In port with the normal rocking of the boat, it sounds like there's a lenght of chain inside the mast, clanking away with each roll. How can I quiet her?

Current post...

Check the Cherubini Hunters forum for the current post titled "Internal Mast Wire Noises." I have heard about other owners using this technique for solving internal mast slap. Dale

Foam pipe insulation

Congrats on the new 260. There have been a number of posts on the subject of mast noise in the past. Do a search to learn more. On my H26 I drilled out the rivets for the end caps on the mast (top and bottom). Then I slid water pipe foam insulating tubes (avail. at Home Depot in plumbing) into the mast, capturing the VHF coax and electrical wiring. You have to do this from top and bottom because you can't get the foam tubes past the spreaders. End caps were then rivetted back in place. Worked like a charm. Bob Gravenstein also posted a good method using PVC pipe. You'll find it when you search. Ron Mehringer s/v Hydro-Therapy

H260 Internal Halyards??

Doesn't your 260 have them, too? That may be more of the problem than the wiring. We cleat the halyards pretty tight after moving the shackle out to the lifelines. Does the job.

Outside the mast

I removed the halyards from my H26 mast and they now live outside the mast – where I can tie them off. As for the wire, I put four wireties around the mast head wire bundle – every three feet. The wireties are arranged so that they are 90 degrees from each other. That keeps the wire bundle from clanging inside the mast. Was well worth the effort.

H260 has conduit...

Hi, My 1999 H260 came from the factory with a wire conduit in the mast and the anchor/steaming wiring installed in it. I ran the VHF antena cable through it too. With the halyards pulled tight, the mast is very quiet. Fair winds and quiet nights... Tom
