I heard somewhere, that there was a Navy report saying that since the 60s, wave height has increased about 25% on the average! Has anyone sailing from that period until now noticed rougher seas, more often? I do know that there are more hurricanes in the offing these days!

Too small a data set to make generalizations.

Considering that weather records have been kept for only about 120 years, it may be unwise to make any kind of historical analysis or prediction about global climate based on such a limited data set. Wave height is a function of wind speed and direction, duration of that speed, water depth, and fetch. Basically, the faster the wind can blow and the longer distance and time it can blow over deep water - the higher the amplitude of the wave. The total number of tropical storms in any given year fluctates. However, the average has not changed very much in the 120 years of recorded weather history. ~ Happy sails to you ~ _/) ~
