Ten years ago while in Pennekamp (Key Largo) I was awakened by unusual rocking of the boat, not rhythmic as a wake or weather would do. Once on deck I found the sailbag I had lashed to a cleat over the side and being pulled by a manatee trying to eat it. I wrestled it away (it was determined) and called my daughter, who was able to pet it-"it feels like Grampa!" Eventually it glided away. The next day I told the ranger about it, and she aimed a freshwater hose off the dock, and sure enough it came back to drink massive amounts. I've heard of others taking bottled water and offering it in the same manner; apparently while in salt water they crave fresh so will drink whatever you offer. Of course this is illegal and feeding any wildlife is advised against. It would be interesting to know where it came from. Have you contacted anyone regarding this sighting?
