A while ago I posted a thread concerning my Garmin GPS72 and its propensity to lock up and display a vertical blue line. Garmin techs assured me that an upgrade in the soft ware would solve the problem so I proceeded with that action and accomplished it this afternoon. Triumphantly I took my up dated GPS outside to play and within ten minutes I had a long blue line. I will contact Garmin and learn what is wrong.

I know whats wrong

Ross, I think I know whats wrong with your GPS. The Garmin units have a problem with the connection between the wobblin shaft and the johnson rod. The cure for this is as follows. For the frustration level, a medium whack with a 22oz. framing hammer is the cure. To fix the connection, a pair of 100$ bills will take care of it. :)

And al;l this time I thought it

was the universal joint between the hexical jack shaft and the sickle bar. Thank you. ;D I think, ;)

Oh, I thought you were talking about cops in

front of a donught shop. Are you sure is not your display shorting out? No amount of upgrades and software fixes will fix a failing display. Like Nice and Easy suggests the best way to fix it may be to purchase a new one. Beats dealing with Garmin support. Quit getting lost on the Bay and spend some of that mad money you must have hidden around.

Benny with WAAS disabled the unit does fine

Garmin is still working on a fix in the soft ware. Mean time I am quite comfortable with fixing my position to 100 feet. On a 1:80,000 chart that is about the width of the pencil marks.

Ross, I had the same thing yesterday

My Garmin locked up and displayed a single vertical line (mines not color). I popped a battery out of it for a few seconds and re-powered up. It did it once more. I've not had a single problem with this unit for 4 years but this past week I'd been trying to run it through my laptop to display on the free NOAA charts through Seaclear II (with no luck). I just assumed it was something I did while playing around with it.
