I'm in west central Fl. and have been using Seahawk Cukote ablative for many years with very good results. Am currently finishing painting the cockpit, having done the deck and non-skid last year, with Brightside one part. Suits my purposes. There is a lot about this in the archives. Keep us posted.

Two-part is better but much harder to apply IMHO. I did my decks with Interlux Toplac which I found flowed better than Brightside. Ten years later it still looks good. The picture is of a new coat of Interlux Interdeck non-skid but you can see how the cabin sides look.

Ed, what kind of prep did you have to do to the cabin before the Toplac? Did you use a primer?

Actually Jim the primer was Brightside. I had cleaned and lightly sanded, probably a 220 grit. Then I painted with Brightside and had trouble tipping it out. So I sanded again and applied the Toplac. So not sure, results have been good but maybe better with primer.

Blunt ! it seem like the same thing when someone asks a question you get a recomendation and then the tangent gets lost, you ask about bottom paint. I use pittit unipoxy comes in colors and have used it in all my boats I keep in the water, I lived in ft lauderdale for most of my live and it is one of the worst waters for growth, usally last 3 years. last boat I had down there.was a 28 cal, the paint lasted 6 years but I did a lot of diving and scrubed the bottom frequently till hard things started to grow on the bottom. and then repainted. had it done professionally as it was more cost efectivly. if you add your time and materials plus paint, as far as top side check you local boaters and see what they have I do not like to much non skid its ruff on the feet and really doesnt look that good, take the sheen out of the deck. good luck with what you use. And Frank, he asked about both bottom AND topside paint in his original post. I agree with you on a good ablative. The two years I was here on the Florida Gulf coast I had on the cheapest West Marine ablative though. When the boat got shipped back to Ohio the bottom still looked good. BUT that was as you said, a monthly cleaning by a reputable diver.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that WM CPP+ is a rebranded well known ablative - maybe Petit but I could be wrong about the name.

Anyway, not sure how much my experience helps as I am in the NE (Long Island Sound) but, for what it's worth, I used CPP+ for about ten years with no complaints. Of course here we typically pull our boats every season, I more recently did so every two, and give it an extra coat when pulled.

However, experiences of others persuaded me to try water-based Petit Hydrocoat - touting effectiveness, ease of use (lack of noxious fumes/ease of clean up) and mostly easier prep (minimal if any sanding). Can't say I'm 100% convinced yet after a couple of years but it's certainly much better re ease of use and seems almost as effective if not equally so.

When considering a Sea Hawk product (any Sea Hawk product) bear in mind that the company's top executives recently went to prison for cooking the books and misleading not only their boat owning and boatyard customers, but the USEPA as well about Sea Hawk's use of an illegal biocide in one of their products sold in this country. In addition to the prison sentences, the company had to pay millions in fines. Now there are any number of anecdotal reports of product failures, ostensibly because quality control has been relaxed due to the financial difficulties the company has faced.
