As Allen shared a couple of posts earlier, a few of us sailors in Pascagoula, Mississippi, also took advantage of the beautiful weather today. After sailing across the Mississippi Sound, we anchored at Sand Island for lunch and spent a few hours soaking up the sun and warm temperatures. Capt. Frank Balcer with crew Chris Charlton on SANDI'S WINGS, Ron Marshall on ISIS, David Tadlock and David Frazier on TADPOLE, and of course, myself on CD EXPRESS met at the island. Hope you enjoy.... Dick, It is time! We are ready for your

Videos! I have held out as long as I can! I am ready! Please provide that great bean footage of just haveing a good time! Thank you in advance! Dick you provided the Northern hardwater areas with the knowledge that there is warmer weather elsewhere and that the sun is on it's return home! Ok, that is not good for you but we will send video. Sand Island is located just west of the Pascagoula Ship Channel, across from the west end of Petit Bois Island. Originally created from dreg spoils from the ship channel, Sand Island has become a bird habitat and is under the protection of the National Seashore Parks. Like Petit Bois and Horn Island, Sand Island basically runs east to west with little to no protection from variable winds. If you approach from the north be mindful of a shallow spit of bottom projection some 150 yards from the island. Also, do not attempt to round the island, especially to the south. It is extremely shallow on that side. Be mindful that Hurricane Katrina severed the east end of Horn Island away from the main part. Approaching from the west, a person may mistake this remaining east end of Horn as Sand Island. Dick
