Replace the whole thing
Cat's D - I had to do the exact same repair. Once I was done my bilge stayed dry. Here are some tips for you. While you are replacing the hose you should really replace both the cockpit and transom fittings at the same time with new Marelon fittings. Why? Because the plastic drain fittings are likely to be original equipment and the plastic is degraded by sunlight. The weakened fittings may not show damage with a visual inspection - my transom fitting looked fine, but a press and turn with my palm cracked the fitting INSIDE the transom!! Marelon fittings are not as affected by sunlight. Try to use fittings with barbs vs. threads for ease of installing the hose.When you buy replacements take the old fittings with you for reference. You really won't be able to increase the size of the cockpit fitting due to clearance. Also match the new hose to the fitting. The only hose I found to work well was clear, smooth bore bilge hose with a reinforcing spiral. All other hose with either not rated for such a bilge connection, and/or collapsed when making the radical bend required to connect to the fittings. When you shop for the hose, try to take the old hose with you so you can approximate the bend you will need to make.About that bend - it's a pain. Look at the transom - it is raked but the cockpit is vertical. Combined with the short distance between the two, the hose has to make a serious bend to connect the two fittings. I found that by adding a slight sideways bend it eased the transition to the transom fitting. Don't be tempted to markedly increase the length of the hose - it won't drain well and you may get a reverse flow of water into the cockpit from a following wave. Be sure to use double hose clamps on both the upper and lower hose connection points. Also don't forget to use a marine sealant around the outside of the fittings, and let it set up for a while before doing the final tightening of the nut. To attach the hose you will have to climb into the locker as Hans mentioned. I'm 5'10" and didn't have much trouble once I figured out the procedure. When dry it's actually quite comfortable in there! There is a plywood divider that runs the length of the locker on the inboard side; it separates the locker from the under cockpit area. You may need to remove part of this at the rear of the locker to access the hose area. It is not difficult as the plywood is thin, but can be a bit awkward to do. While in the locker check tightness of all the bolts you see in there. Good luck! If you need any other info send me an email.Brad
