I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I have haveing a problem with my starter on my Catalina 30. I put the key into it and it turns okay. THe problem is that it won't return to the 90 degree position so that I can get my key out. I can get the starter shut off, and it turns to the left, it just won't go all the way to the right. Earlier I took the panel apart and when I tipped it forward the key went back into position and came out. I just turned the engine on and the key is stuck again. Anyone know what causes this or how to fix the part and not replace it?

The lock cylinder is the problem ,

lubricate it. first with graphite if that doesn't work then WD-40. after that try a BFH(ammer)

You'll also need a set of torch's

With that BFH,just make sure there's a fire extinguisher nearby and don't hit your fingers with the hammer.:) if that fails try the link and get a new key switch

new switch

When I purchased my C28, the plastic switch was broken such that the outer key slot rotated independently from the inner one. I can't if this is exactly the same problem you have, but once the panel is off, it is very easy to replace the starter switch, and iin a much sturdier housing for only about $30 at Catalina Direct.

Key switches on boats

are a PITA! My Bene has a Perkins engine, with a Perkins panel. The key switch is in two parts. It was a huge freaking pain to change it out, calls to the Perkins distrib, back and forth, they sent the wrong part, expensive, take it back, etc, etc. If I had it to do over again, I think I'd just put in a toggle switch at the helm, with another toggle switch hidden below.
