Our second season.......

on Imagination was very good. Our Pearson 26 is a great starter boat for both of us. Being in retail we work weekends but Tuesdays and Wednesdays the Chesapeake Bay around Solomons is ours. We got out every week and and have become very good. We pass most other boats (Previous owner raced her with an inventory of 10 sails) and those we don't we admire. Wife still can't pull the cord on the outboard but she is trying! (Engine weighs more than she does.) Often we just enjoy a quiet day, drop the hook up a small creek, cocktails, dinner, and listen to the peepers. In our opinion there is no better way to enjoy life than on the Bay with so much it has to offer. Looking forward to March/April to start it all over again. David & Ginni

Is there ever enough time.

Although we sailed about 30 days overall, for us part time sailors there never seems to be enough sailing time in a given year. Unfortunately the county would like us to mow the lawn at least once a summer which takes away from the time under sail. The weather this year was quite good for sailors on Lake Michigan so the days we did sail we made good time from port to port.

2002 First Season

I just started sailing this past summer towards the end of our sailing season and cannot wait to get back out! I recently found these Hunter forums and have enjoyed reading them and also learned a ton, even though I don't own a boat...yet. I'm counting on future tales from warmer climates to get me through the winter! Happy Holidays Ed

Was it good? Hell yeah!

After many years of wishing, I finally got my first boat - a 2000 Hunter 290 in pristine condition. Sailed it home from Mattituck to Huntington over 2 days. On the first leg home, watched the sun set on Long Island Sound while under sail. What an intro! Spent another 5 days over 2 trips living aboard, and many day and evening trips as well. Looking forward to the NY/NJ shows, and especially to the upcoming season, when we hope to really maximize our time aboard. Now if I could only see my way to a new 356.....

So Far

It is not over for us yet. In fact we are on our way out there right now, beats the hell out of shoveling snow.

NEVER ENOUGH

Although I'm blessed with being able to spend many happy days ON my boat, lack of crew prevents me from taking her out as much as I'd like. Even my membership in a local sailing club didn't help much - everyone seemed to have other boats to go out on. Oh, well. I can't have everything, I guess. I did get out for about 2 dozen day sails & 2 weekend cruises. I usually take off on one week-long cruise among the Lake Erie Islands each summer, but wasn't able to do that this year. So - in summary - it's been a so-so season. Bill on STARGAZER

Gary, Look at it This Way

When it melts there will be more water in the lake. Next year come on down and go out with us.

Bill Robb: what?

What are you sailing that you cannot single-hand Bill? C'mon over to Huron when you need a fix. Usually just my First Mate and I(and the dog). And the First Mate curls up with a book, I always end up single-handling my H37C. Only thirteen more weeks!!

hope next year is better

Mixed bag ... a couple of the best days I've ever had, but the Carlyle Lake flood blew the spring and early summer, and my mom's serious illness tied up mid/late summer and fall. All in all, it was a disappointing year, and not near worth the costs involved. Tom Monroe Carlyle Lake

Just Getting Back to Sailing in 2002

Although I have just started back sailing the later part of this year, I am anxious in doing much more in 2003. Our local lake has been low over the past many months, but things are looking up as there has been much rain recently. Hope everyone has a great new year! Jim 'TIKI' Hunter 146

2nd year sailing, and can't wait for the third

Well we sail out of Sandusky, on Lake Erie so our boat is on the hard as we speak collecting snow. This is only my second year of sailing and the great times of this year are only shadowed by the first year when Bill Robb (from Lorain) and his wife first introduced me to sailing and sold us our first boat. In the first year we moved up from a 25 to a 34 and had an awesome time on both. Looking back I really enjoyed sailing the 25 because it was allot more get in and go than the 34, but I have worked it down to a pretty good system now. The best thing is that the family loves sailing and it’s a great way to have us all together (sometime). We have learned to work as a team and get some real nice quality time together (even when docking). This last year I have been able to work on soloing and several night sails, usually to the Bay (Put in Bay). I have been able to smuggle my way into several Regattas with many great sailors who have taught me a great deal thus far. I can not imagine not sailing now that the bug has bit. So to sum it up...This year was great and next year will be even better (after the bottom is painted). As for Bill, just like Ed stated, the invitation is always open to you and your wife to come down and jump on board. That is the least I can do. I will plan a shake down cruise this spring to Lorain so I can take you all to dinner as we had planned a while back. I would really like to visit the restaurant at the Marina again!! (Great food).

Rigging Question

I have an O'Day Orbit that was built in the 1960's. It has a club footed jib. I would like to find out if anyone has any information regarding the Orbit. The boat is about 15 feet long. I have checked other websites but can't find anything. Has anyone besides me heard of this model? Please reply to slee40@rochester.rr.com. Thanks, Steve Lee
