I had a really good day today... 1. When opening the garage door this morning, one of the springs broke.. 2. I got five miles from my house and a rear tire went flat - not repairable, 200 bucks to replace, and the spare is one of those little bicycle type things.I changed it and kept going. 3. Got to the bank, went to the ATM for some cash, and left my checkbook there. New checking account time. I finally got to the boat, went sailing, and had a GREAT time. Like I said before, all things being equal, it was a good day. MC

Yea but....

Well Michael, My garage spring is fine, my Jeep has brand new tires, my checking accounts just fine too.... but..... my Hunter 380 is sitting in a parking lot... it's 38 degrees, the winds blowing 45mph, and I gotta go to work.:-((( Your day was better than mine :)))))))) Smooth Sailing Bob Knott H380

Restrict this site....please!

We need a web-site restricted to sailors whose boats sit on the pavement under the snow for five months! :)

The dis-advantaged must make do

You have to drive to your boat? Mines just a short walk and the weather's fine. Of course a 45 would get stuck sideways in my little lake...

I really feel for ya'll

it is the mid 70s on the way to 80 not a cloud in the sky the wife is at work the ids are at school the dog is asleep and I am on my way out to the boat

I'd Move

...to a warmer climate. I do not understand making 12 payments on something I use for 6 months. OTOH, I pay for a year's worth of slip, too. I simply don't think I could go without sailing that long. HOW do you guys do it?

Payments, Jay?!?!

Sure, my boat gathers snow for 7 months, onlys sails for 5.... but payments? No thanks. OTOH.... when this H25 is traded up for a 30-footer, maybe a payment will be necessary. I go to the boat about once a week to look at it. It's on a trailer in dry storage, shedding snow. May 1st seems so far away! And Jay - how many Hunters do you own? A H25 AND a H31? Could make an interesting story.....

G

Gregory Stebbins

Yea Jay come on give. HOW many you really got?

And HOW many others are multi-owners?

J

Jay Hill

Yep, got two at the moment

..but there's a really good reason. I own a sailing school and the boats are "school/work" boats. I have the H25 and a leased H33 on one lake and a Catalina 25 and the H31 on another. I'm actually looking to replace the H25 at the end of this season, I'd like more cockpit space for training; I'll probably put the H25 in the charter fleet. I'd also like to buy another 30+ for the lake where the 33 is so I can quit leasing the 33 and start chartering it. Bought both boats through users of this site; pretty cool, huh? And I agree about the payments, I do not want payments, ever, but 5% financing is better decision than savings because of the interest earned on same value invested, so I elected to borrow from a bank vs. myself. If the school does well enough this year, I'll pay off any "payments" with any profit generated.

Oh, the humanity....

Let me see if I got this stright. Sailing and upgrading for you are deductable business expenses? Gee that's tuff! HOW do you stand it?

Snow ,What snow?

The place I keep the boat at , never knew snow; I am sailing year around ,at least once a week , well not every week on Nov-Feb due to occasional foul weather and associated waves. No , I don't have a heater on my boat , don't need one . Yes , indeed it's a toy , but it's the second home too , and besides , I couldn't stay away from water , either sailing or ( now seldom..)windsurfing for too long...

But do you appriciate it

Looking at the replies from all you poor sun bound guys, I have to pity you for not being able to enjoy the pleasure getting back on your boat after a winter of not sailing. You're out there sailing while we snow and rain belt types are anticipating sailing - darn it. Jim Kolstoe H23 Kara's Boo

An even BETTER day!

1. Replaced garage door spring in under 5 minutes, no tools required, spring cost 10 bucks. 2. Got tire replaced, cost only 100, not 200 bucks, road hazard warranty, prorated. 3. Found checkbook on floor of my car, had not yet cancelled checking account. 4. WENT SAILING! 74 degrees, wind 10-12 kts, a good day indeed. MC

That's a GREAT Day, Michael..

and good to see Firewater out and about. We all know HOW those projects can get complicated, and when things work out better than expected, it is a GREAT day. PS, I'm now at D1814; L40.5. Went out last Saturday myself...just as you described. Rick D.

Hunter Optional Equipment?

Should we try to get hunter to design skates for the boats so you guys can go ice sailing?

M

Mark Johnson

Michael....Why do you..

insist on rubbing it in about sailing when all us folks are still winter bound? I think that is cruel and insensitive. Our day will come...soon I hope! I guess one positive aspect of having a shorter sailing season is less wear and tear on the boat. How's that for justification? Mark Johnson S/V Anthem

Hey Rick..!

Did you just get a letter raising your slip fees? I did...ugh. Wanna do Ensenada race with us on 4-28 ? MC

M

Mark...

I'm sorry - at least I think I'm sorry. I never could understand why anyone would choose to live in a place where it - ugh - snows...but each to their own. As for the wear and tear theory, I guess you are correct, but I'll put up with it and go sailing any time of the year out here. Well, almost any time. It does occasionally rain fairly hard, and while you *can* sail in it, unless I'm racing, I usually just go down below, make some coffee, and do a few odd jobs. MC
