I have a NexGen 5.5 KW in my 410. I think the 5.5 is enough as I can run both A/C units. My only complaint with the NexGen is the power is not clean and the unit actually produces more than 110V. The problem with that is my charger/inverter gives an overcurrent alarm and will not come on unless I have the hot water heater on when I switch the breaker on. And that does not work well when the hot water is already hot from the engine running all day.
Check your AC voltage regulator. I'm not familiar with NexGen, but most gensets have an adjustable regulator in the J-box.

I have a 2009 Hunter 41 DS. Love the boat. I am currently located at Bronte Outer Harbour Marina on Lake Ontario and have cruising plans for next season that will take me into the Carribean. I am beginning my research now as to the best generator to install in my boat for this purpose. Essentially, my objectives are to run at least one of my two air conditioner units while on the hook, while at the same time drawing DC current for my refrigerator and freezer. I may also purchase a watermaker which I will want to run while under sail.

I have read the forums from this site about portable alternatives, such as Honda etc, and do not feel this is the right approach for me.

I notice from the Hunter 41 specs that the Fischer Panda 6.0 KW genset comes as an option in the Hunter 41 model. I would like to hear from Hunter owners whether this model is the preferred option for the boat or if I should be considering more power, say the FP 8.0, or another brand name entirely. I would obviously like something with low noise and compact enough to fit the Hunter 41.

Grateful for any thoughts readers may have on this topic.
In my opinion, your best option:

Hi I have a FP 7kw on my new boat and it is installed under the Navigation seat. I notice it is sea water cooled.

Mine is a 2003 44DS, seems to run the AC no worries, pretty quiet, runs the microwave and off course the battery charger, I am in the process of changing a leaking hose at the moment as I keep getting a little water with diesel in the bilge when running. I think it may be a seal in the water pump perhaps. Work in progress but nothing bad.

I started this thread with the question of what genset would be the best to install on my H41. After several months of research I purchased a Westerbeke 5.5 KW and have it now placed in the portside cockpit locker. Access ports have been cut in the stern cabin for installation and maintenance.

The gennie is not operational yet, and therefore I cannot report on my success or lack thereof, but I thought readers might be interested in seeing how she fits - see attached.
