berth. We have an apelco fish finder/depth sounder. The depth alarm is set for 6 feet. Around the northern end of Garrett Island the water is about 50 feet or a little more. suddenly the depth alarm was screamin and showing 2.8 feet. A few seconds later it started givng us fish alerts. we had run across a very large shoal of either Hickory Shad or Rock Fish. The screen was covered with icons. No I didn't drop a hook. ;( no license yet ;( and we were heading for home. if we were going to spend the night out I would have trolled a lure thru there and had fish for supper. ;)

Sounds like you could of

dropped a net over the side. Do you need a license for scooping fish out of the water? Keep it up, Ctskip

A friend said that they had been kayaking

about two miles from that area in a creek and the shad were so thick that she was concerned that she had crushed one when she grounded the kayak on a midstream rock.

The shad were so badly depleted by over fishing

and dam construction and destruction of habitat that finally after a twenty year moritorium on fishing them they are starting to come back in traditional numbers.

Good post!

That reminds me of a question I need to ask. I'll post it separately.
