Downwind we used to set the main to full extension on downwind legs. It was what is called the full barn door mode. How does @Lightnsail use the outhaul on downwind legs?

Ease the outhaul to provide a fuller main shape. Also ease the backstay if you have one.

Downwind I would use a tight outhaul to flatten the mainsail and provide maximum sail area to the wind. A loose outhaul will only bag the sail. Agree on the backstay.
