A few oday 22 questions

I just got a 1980 oday 22. First the steaming light has the wire broke off in the deck next to the mast. Anyone know where the wire is running and how to get to it to replace it? Next question is about the chain plate for the Side stays. I have seen posts and photos showing the chain plate straddling the bulkhead and connected to angle brackets. Mine are aft of the bulkhead and just have washers backing them. Is that the way they are on the 80?

My boat is a 1980 model and has chain plates the same as you describe on your boat. The brackets on the bulkhead are for the jib fairleads.

Yeah. Seems odd the jib fair lead is mounted more substantial then the chain plate

I think that the original, masthead rig on the 22 had the chainplates lining up with the mast and so they landed close to the main bulkhead. when O'DAY changed the rig to the taller, Fractional rig in 1980 they moved the chainplates aft to accomodate the swept-back spreaders of the new rig. I too think it strange that the jib fairleads are backed up better than hte chainplates.....but, I had wondered about that...... If the deck is showing signs of lifting from the strain of the chainplates, perhaps a rod could be attached underneath to connect the underside of the chainplate to the internal structure of the boat, like the berth or the galley structure? (check out the chainplates of the larger O'DAYS like the 28, 30, and 34) I think on the 20 when they switched from masthead to fractional rig they moved the shroud chainplates aft and out to the deck edge and thru-bolted them to the sides of the hull (inside).
