manufacturer
It was designed by George Franklin of Franklin Bros Boat Building in Franklin New Hampshire. George was the mastermind of the business while his younger brother took care of the production. The weakness in the design is the steering which is right in the middle of the boat. It is there for stability purposes, because if it was on either side, the weight of the driver alone would tilt the boat to one side. The brochure states that it is a Sportabout. It was made for one person to use, could be used as a tender for a ship, and was intended to be a middle boat between a true tender and a true jet-ski. They originally came with a 15 hp Merc, but this owner found an 18 and figured it would go faster. Yes it looks like a Whaler because they took the hull design directly from a Boston Whaler. They changed the top or interior mold just enough to fool people, but their larceny caught up with them. The were put out of business by Boston Whaler in 2006 after a meeting. No charges or fines were paid. It's April 1 right?
