Hello all from Lake Tahoe!!!

While all of you in the Sunshine State are all blissfully unaware of something that we mountain folk refer to as "seasons", we have had our first snow and tragically have gone through something else that would be foreign to you known as "decommissioning" .

Myself and one other captain suffering with this debilitating condition will be in LA on Saturday searching for the only known cure. A sailboat ride!!!! While we are of questionable moral character, we are well thought of in our local sailing community. We will arrive for treatment with a fine assortment of suitable provisions in exchange for this needed antidote.

Reciprocal treatments will be available May through October on the beautiful, yet chilly, waters of Lake Tahoe.

Internet access may be limited till Friday. My cell number is: 775.233.7802.

Sincerely,

Capt. Tim Cobb

Since when is CA considered the "Sunshine State"? The last time I looked a my auto license plate I could swear that it said Florida the Sunshine State. Now, If you happen to be around Gulfport, FL this coming weekend I would be happy to alleviate your withdrawal problem.

Technically Speaking....

"Popular belief is Florida (the sunshine state), however, that is merely the "popular" belief perpetuated by license plates and the Florida visitors bureau. The actual meteorological data shows that 5 U.S. states actually have a greater claim on that title than Florida.

The top state, and it makes sense when you think about it, is Arizona. Next, are California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas, in that order. These stats are from the national weather service and were reported in USA Today.
http://www.usatoday.com/weather/news/2004-06-21-fla-sunshine_x.htm As stated in the USA Today article, Florida has more days where between 20% and 70% of the sun is blocked by clouds than anywhere else in United States"

So actually he is very close to the truth.

Florida is green naturally though. The data does not account for liquid sunshine, a needed component to keeping the vegetation green instead of brown.

Sorry I am no help in your quest.

We low landers in the East are suffering from "Seasons" as well. Decommissioning causes depression and overuse of sailing forums. There are reports of excessive blathering.
Skiing provides some relief. Rx - Mogul run BID X 3 days. Repeat as neccessary.

I can report observation of the same phenomenon in the Great Lakes states.

Hello from the sunshine coast in the sunshine state. I got scared tonight when I heard water falling from the sky. Forgot what that was like - last time we saw that here was 6 weeks ago in late September. Fortunately, it lasted only 15 minutes.

I heard that there a vegetable and cattle farms in Florida and citrus groves as well. While one group prays for sunny skies another group prays for rain. somebody gets what they want and somebody doesn't. kinda funny isn't it. ;)

Does that forecast also call for a post-frontal westerly gale after the rain? Sailing around such a storm could be interesting...

Dunno. I caught only a glimpse out the corner of my eye of the local news pretty boy weather man bragging about the KABC-Live-Megadoppler-7000-HD weather radar, even though it showed no precip, big blank map as usual.

We're a little early for gales after fronts, we've been in a mild offshore Santa Ana condition lately but started transition last night, pretty drippy this morning.

Since 1968 California's official nickname has been the "GOLDEN STATE" BTW what's up with the Capt title"?... are you guys charter boat skippers or in the military or what? Seems a little pretentious for a recreational sailboat discussion. Just my opinion, though.

Florida is the "Sunshine State", not the "sunniest state" (Texas why dont you take that slogan, and tell me how it works out for you) The motto was to evoke the ideals of sun, sand and water for tourism. Somehow I doubt that if New Mexico started using the motto "sunshine state" it would increase tourism (no offense to NM, it is truly beautiful countryside). CA, NM, TX, all may have more sunshine, but Minnesota has lots of sunshine in December too, but it is missing the sub-tropical and tropical climate. It was 80 here yesterday, not 30 or 50, or 60. Sunshine is great, but does no good if you cannot use it.

And yes, it did rain here yesterday... I am sure that it would have blocked out the sun, if the sun had been up. So mark another day down where it was sunny in the Sunshine State.

Everyone knows that Texas is the LONE STAR STATE.... Texans are too cool to beg for tourism. Although I've been there many times when it could be called the "Hotter than Hell" state.... on the plus side... the people are great and the roads are the nation's best.

As long as we are complaining about misappropriated names consider that Georgia (the so-called peach state) produces fewer peaches than South Carolina.

I think that perhaps not all 'Georgia Peaches', are actually peaches.
