lol, Im always so worried of dropping it while in the fiasco of sail changes while racing.
I wear a pfd when sailing by myself. My radio is clipped to the vest and the hand loop is snapped thru the buckle. That way if the radio becomes unclipped it is still attached to the vest. I also have a knife clipped to the vest with a short piece of cord attached to a small carabiner as back-up.
Running around deck I will often knock the radio off but it still stays with me because of the hand loop.

We had our 31 about 2 hrs when we found the bottom of barneagat bay. It took $500 of bottom paint to make it go away.

2 soft groundings. Both in our supposed 7 ft channel. Both during a neap tide. Both with first time guests...

So I am the relatively new owner of the relatively old Hunter 30. So far I have not personally put her aground, but not for lack of trying. I have bumped bottom lots of time and snagged some line off the bottom in a marina when we turned the wrong way but I'll come back to that.

That is not to say we haven't grounded the boat, my mentor and much more experienced sailor has put her hard aground twice in the last few years.

So back to the snagged line. Two years ago we took a trip to Cape May from Baltimore. The first night in the harbor there we dropped the hook the next day we wanted showers so we. Pulled into a marnia. My friend the more experienced sailor nd I debated wich way to the slip they assigned us. We guessed wrong. Halfway down the fairway the bottom kept getting shallower. Then we stuck fast. Was never sure if we cut ally grounded but as thee tide came in we were able to move putting the engine in gear immediately made it stall. I was convinced we had trashed the prop.

The dock master from the marina eventually came and pulled us free and pushed us into our slip. We again tried the engine it again stalled when put in gear. We made arrangements to get the boat pulled.

At about that point I was getting restless and announced I was ging to dive on the propr to figure out how much damage we'd done. I got under and quickly found the prop was snared in heavy nylon rope that had been made up into a net of some sort. Several trips down with a knife and we could put her in gear and so we went back home. So I'm not sure if I have ever truly grounded the boat but I certainly have gotten the prop tangled and stuck.
