A "cracking" noise

Hi all. I just purchased a 94 Hunter 26. It seems to be in good shape, except I have noticed a noise that sounds like something cracking when I walk around on top of the cabin, around the mast area. It doesn't seem to be any weaker, and there is no visible damage. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

My 95 H-26 does not make cracking noises in that area. When I had survey done surveyor carefully checked area around mast and cabin top as he said it was an area where moisture damage was regularly found. Suggest you check with a moisture meter. Best regards, Mike T.

My hunter 30 crack the same way. It basically means water has gotten under the fiberglass and caused the wood and fiberglass to delaminate.
Do a search on sailboat delamination. If the problem isn't too bad the problem can be fixed fairly easily. (Don Casey has written alot about the repair).
