I'm looking at Albin Vegas that are for sale and I have a couple of
questions that someone on this forum may be able to help with:

Chain Plate attachment: is this area normally a problem? Are the
chainplates fastened to the hull?

Hull/Deck joint: is this area prone to leaks?

All input is welcome. Thanks.

Peter.

The chain plate arrangement is unusual, but I have never heard of a
failure. I also have not experienced or heard of a hull deck joint
leak.

Hi Peter

Chainplates are connected through the very thick joint (hull/deck) then
through plate. Made from stainle3ss 316. Not a known weakness but some
people doing transatlantic or circumnavigations have beefed them up.

Hull/deck joint is via a non-setting mastic and many M6 bolts. Sometimes you
get very slight leak but all you have to do is tighten the nut a turn and
that will usually cure it.

Thanks for the replies to my concerns. I guess I should really ask
about what areas I should be checking, and if the Vega has any
particular weakness.

Thanks.
Peter.

I hate to say it but my Lealea, V1860, is experiencing some minor deck joint leaking, mostly along the sheet block track but also at the screws forward of the mast. I noticed the leaks after I installed the white oak ceiling as the water stained the wood directly under the screws leaving a black streak where the trickle of water ran down the inside of the hull. The amount of water getting in is very small and could easily be mistaken for condensation. I probably wouldn't have noticed if not for the stains on the wood. I haven't figured out what to do about it yet but its not bad enough to lose any sleep over.
