Up until an hour ago our A/C worked great. I then closed the intake valve, cleaned the strainer, reinserted it and opened the valve. When I turned the A/C back on it ran but then a rapid "pinging" came from the A/C unit. A few seconds later "HPF" appeared on the A/C display screen. It seems like water is pumping into the unit but does not discharge. Please help. It's hot here! Many thanks.

Probably lost prime on the pump. open the discharge hose at the pump (pump off) .. there should be water at the pump discharge.. start the pump for a couple of seconds .. if it is working, water will shoot out.. be ready for that with a towel over the discharge. once you have water there, put the hose back and restart the pump.. should work. Depending on the installation, sometimes some suction has to be applied to the pump discharge (pump off) to get water there.. sometimes the installation is such that when you open the hose to try to re-install it to the discharge, air will get back into the pump and it will lose its prime again.. so keep the water in the pump and the air out.. Sometimes ya have to open the outlet of the strainer to get water there from the thru-hull then replace that and open the pump discharge to get water there so that all the air is out of the pump..

Previous owner on my boat put a "t" and ball valve in to purge the line. I keep an old cup near it to catch water. No tools and no mess.
