I am the original owner of a '80 H-33 and am ready to improve my dockside comfort level. Anyone with experience installing a/c on a 33? I would appreciate any advice or experience in terms of best location for the unit and btu if I want only one vent.

Its cold down here......

"Its cold down here", my wife tells me when we use our carry on window ac unit. Its just a small 5200 btu GE window unit available from SAMS for about $80. I think I paid 119 about 2years ago, but they have gone down in price. It will freeze you out if you let it. We are in the Atlanta area and it cools our 1982 hunter 33 just fine. We have it set just on the bridge deck of the companionway, no installation required. It fills the opening really well, slide the hatch closed and drop the companiionway cover down to the top of the unit and its set. We just step over it going in and out of the boat. Use it about 3mos out of the year, otherwise, it stores in our garage. Just an inexpensive way to stay cool. Good luck, David Underwood

I've got one installed in the v-berth

I've had a Mermaid-type unit installed in the opening in the v-berth in my 33 for several years. Its a 16k btu unit (it gets very hotin New Orleans), fits in the v-berth cutout and you put the "cutout filler" above it with some sound deadening material on the underside. Made up a grill-intake filler from Mahogany for the cabin. This sort of installation puts everything in one place and uses an area that is not used effectively otherwise. Could not use the boat in the summer otherwise. There are several boats near me that use the "a/c from Wally-world in the door" approach though. You have to be careful of where your condensate from the a/c drains - most use a hose in the cockpit to the cockpit drain.
