I'm thinking of selling our(wife & myself) powerboat & getting a sailboat. One of the boats that has caught our eye is the Hunter 29.5(1994-97). However, of the 30 plus ones that are for sale on Yachtworld.com, none have ac/heat. Does anyone know if it is possible to add a/c to this model? Where can the unit be located? Also any other comments on this model(negative & positive) would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance. Erle

i tried the hatch model carry on and it was more rouble than worth. it couldnt keep up with hi 90's temp and dripped condensation. Did alot of research and went wiht the central unit from ocean breeze. you can measurments from there website and the staff is very customer oriented, both before and after the sale. could not be happier

In regards to the heat part of your need...
we were very happy with the Wallas forced air kerosene wall mount heater on our H28. Simple to operate, thrifty on fuel and power consumption, quiet and great for keeping the boat comfy while on the hook during the colder times of the year. Scan Marine is the North American distributor here in Seattle. See link below. Our unit was mounted on the galley bulk head with a chimney through the coach roof. Of course an air conditioner during the summer months really complicates matters unless you plan to spend all your time connected to shore power or bring a portable generator on board. Can't help you on the boat, but you can add a AC/heat pump to just about any boat. For the heat and humidity we get on the Bay, consider at least an 8K BTU AC unit for a 30 footer. Look up Mermaid on the web and study what they have to offer for starters. They have been fitted in many small places such as under dinette seats, under sink lockers, etc. There are portable units, too, but as one fellow pointed out, they tend to me a hassle to some.

Yes - it can be done
Before we sold our 1995 29.5, I went thru the exercise of investigating doing just what you are asking. The unit is well suited to fit under the starboard salon seat. You will need a new thru-hulls for pickup and expelling. I was looking at the Mermaid 8k reverse cycle unit. So to answer your questions, yes it can be done.
