I have read numerous notes on bleeding the fuel on the Yanmar 2-GM but almost all of them mention somthing to the effect of pum the fuel pump by hand ???? Can't I just turn the motor over via batter ?????
I have done this, but you should have lots of battery and it helps to release the compression first. I have also found that by inserting a squeeze bulb pump (like those found on outboard tanks) in the fuel line before the filter pumps much more fuel than the hand pump on the fuel pump and works quite well.
If you move the compression levers over before cranking the engine, the load on the battery is very low. This idea will work if you have somebody pressing the start button while you man the bleeder screw. You could also install a remote starter at the engine. I haven't talked with anybody that uses this method, and pumping by hand isn't that difficult. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty
if you use the engine to bleed the system be sure to shut the raw water intake first. if you crank th engine for along time without the exhaust to pushout the water you could flood the head with water, just make sure after it starts to open the raw water intake. you can refer to cold weather starting in the manual for the prodedure.
