anchor rode in 410 locker
John,After I added a 7 kw Northern Lights genset in the starboard lazarette, my 410 settled about 3 inches by the stern. This put my rubrail about 2 inches below waterline and affected sailing characteristics. Greg Emerson at Hunter suggested I add chain in the anchor locker to counterbalance this, which caused my racing buddies to cring and break oujt in a cold sweat! I did add 200 ft of 5/16 BBB to my locker, which brought the stern up about 2 inches. I use the 200 ft. factory braided rode plus 30 ft. of chain for my primary rode and have the other 200 ft of chain as a backup. With all this coiled up in the locker, there's still about a foot of room in the top of the anchor locker (room enough for a 2.5 gallon jerry can of gasoline for the dink). I like keeping the gasoline up there,, as the locker is naturally vented only to the outside forward. The boat is better trimmed with the chain and sails better. By the way, does Wonderblond still get to open the mail at her new job? Lastly, 200 ft of 5/16 BBB weighs 310 lbs.
