Want to buy Hunter 27 in Galveston to replace Islander 27 lost in Katrina. Will 9hp outboard be enough to push boat through currents in Gulf Intracoastal Waterway from Galveston to Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans? I have two outboards and am considering a second motor mount to have both available. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I would think it would be just fine

I cant see why it shouldnt move you I am sure your hull speed isnt much over 6 knts and that motor will get you up there I am sure, maybe not ask quik as an inboard but it'll be fine. Now yamaha makes a prop that provides extra thrust for outboard in the range of 6-15 hp and it does help stop and bring you up to speed alot quiker! Good luck

What year is that 27?

I had a 9.9 on a Starwind 27 and it was fine. I think my boat was about 5500 pounds. I rented a Hunter 27 years ago that had a one cylinder Yanmar 8hp that was terrible.
