Could anyone quickly and easily tell me what kind of Champion sparkplugs are right for a '96 Johnson 9.9 LS ES? The shop I bought it from put in NGK's and I was told that Champion is the one and only sparkplugs to use. It is racing at idle speed and low speed in gear. Thanks.

Try AC Plugs

I run numerous small engines (8)including the 7.5 Honda 4 stroke outboard on the boat. I have found that AC plugs (in the proper heat range) last longer and perform better (IMHO )than any other plugs. I gave up on 2 strokes many years ago.

Shop Manual

Clymer Evinrude/Johnson Shop Manual, 2 stroke, (95 - 98) recommends Champion QL82C,no alternative, for standard, and QL86C for extended idle operation.
