I have a rigg-less spar 91 Hunter Vision and wondering if anyone knows the function of the 3/8 SS thru bolt at the stern end of the 44oo# cast iron wing keel several 1" thru bolts pattern? Jeff

The best way to explain it till I can post photos. Heading from bow to stern there are three 1" keel bolts (staggered pattern) followed by another three staggered(assuming center keel) bolts followed by another single 1' bolt. Directly behind that "in-line" and 10 inches further aft is another keel bolt but of a different size 3/8 at the rear of the keel. The reason I'm asking is to find out whether it needs to be re-torqued. Each time the boat is hauled for bottom paint the first ten inches of "keel/hull joint(Fairing compound) has eroded away. I'm wondering if it's from engine vibration or ???? The ship is water tight and sound, i'm just trying to avoid any future problems if any, or creating some by over torqueing this bolt.

What did you ever find with your keel? Do you have water collect in the second bilge compartment where the first group of keel bolts start?

Wonder if that last 3/8" bolt is for a ground connection. It certainly would have a lot less holding power than the 1" bolts. Doubt that it alone would make much difference on your fairing erosion.

Seems like maybe you just need a more ductile fairing material.
