Has anyone had any experience changing over the 9.9 Evinrude to remote controls inside the cockpit? ie: is it worth the 300.00 and labor and is it something a mechanically inclined person could do? PS. I'am finding this site to be extremely helpful as a new Catalina owner-thanks again to all who answer.

Haven't done it but...

I had a C-27 with cockpit controls and did had to remove it at one time. Installing them should be well within the skills of a reasonably handy boat owner.

DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!

It'll be the best $300 you ever spent on your boat!! They don't need to be installed by a pro but you will need an extra pair of hands to help. As Echo Gulf said, you'll wonder how you ever managed before!! LaDonna (can you tell I love my cockpit controls?)

A bit frustrating

Watch when you do this conversion, Mounting the control box is easy, run the cables back to the lazerette and make a big loop so they will not bend too sharply when you tilt the motor, Now for the fun part. You need to disconnect the tiller twist controls and replace with the remote cable. Access is tight and took a while first time without instructions. Do not drop anything or it will sink... I changed the electric start to a solinoid and key at the same time and mounted this by the remote control box so the enging can be started and shut off without lifting the lazerette. Used the parts from an electric start Chrysler 10.0. It is worth the trouble.
