I was wondering if there are any 9.2c owners that could share their knowledge on propeller configurations for this boat. I guess this could be asked of 9.2a owners as well since I believe both boats are the same from the water line down.

I have a 1987 9.2c with a 3'11" draft currently configured with what think is the original prop. The boat is equiped with the standard 16 HP Yanmar for that year. When I haul the boat I will be pulling the propeller to replace the cutlass bearing and the prior owner suggested that I replace the prop because he felt that it was to blame for the failed cutlass bearing.

My questions are:

1) Does anyone know what the standard two blade diameter and pitch is for this boat and engine combination?

2) Has anyone upgraded to a three blade prop for this boat and engine combination and if so what diameter and pitch prop did you find appropriate and what were the results? Power/Speed/Drag/Vibration?

3) In the event that I decide to stick with my current prop does anyone have recomendations as to where I can send it for overhaul and balancing?

My 1980 9.2C had a Yanmar 2QM15 with a 2 blade 13x13 RH prop. The engine RPMs (wide open throttle) and the transmission gear ratio are important and may be different for different model years.

This winter, I'm probably going to put a campbell sailor prop 3 blade 15 x 9 on mine with the 3gm30. If it doesn't sell first!

Sounds like the same engine but I will have to check my transmission gear ratio - didn't think about that when I originally posted. What do you mean by the engine RPM's at full throttle? Do you mean that the engine reaches maximum rated RPM at full throttle? Do you happen to remember your gear ratio? I will look up the gear ratio on mine and update the post.
Thanks

If I recall correctly, my old Kanzaki transmission had a ratio of 2.14 : 1. And yes, I meant maximum RPMs at full throttle.

I installed a Yanmar 3GMD 20 hp engine in my 9.2A and used a 3 blade 15X11 prop. The boat reverses well and has gone up to 7.3 kts by my GPS on flat water, I normally run at or below hull speed. The 3 blade prop has less vibration that the original 2 blade.

15 x 11 is what I would use if I installed a "regular" three blade. Campbell sailor says their 15 x 9 is equivalent due to cupping. My trans ratio is 2.6 to 1.

I Finally got down to the boat and checked my transmission gear ratio. The transmission is a Kanzanki with a gear ratio of 2.62:1.
I guess if your running a 13X13 with a gear ratio of 2.14:1 I might have to go with a prop with less twist or diameter. There should be some sort of calculator for figuring out prop specifications for given boat and engine/transmission combinations.

All the manufacturers have calculators. You can find them with an internet search.
