Any suggestions for repair of water leaking down the shroud strut after a heavy rain. I had asked a boat yard to rebed the plate when the mast was off the boat but they couldn't break the lower nuts loose and just caulked around the plate. And charged $150. After Hurricane Floyd I noticed dampness around the starboard lower wood block and a small puddle of water.

Douglas, Upon purchasing my '89 30, I rebedded both shroud plates and also had a hard time freeing the nuts on the struts.I dont know of any other way to solve your problem other than persistance, lots of liquid wrench and a properly sized socket with long handled breaking bar.Be sure to mark where the nuts are before loosenig them so you don't over tighten when finished. Also be sure to support the mast with the halards and loossen the opposite side while fixing the other. Good Luck.

Rebed Plates

I had the same problem with a leak on my '88 H30. I also could not free the nuts. As an alternative I scrapped out the old sealant from under the plate. Although this took some time to clear it was a simple job to inject new sealant under the plates once it was cleaned out. The trick is in removing the old stuff and not attempting to seal over it. I did this over a year ago and so far all is well. gd
