In preparation for the off season I am planning on removing the stock holding tank (6 gallon) on my 1989 30G and replacing it with something bigger (12 to 18 gallon). Does anyone have any experience in disassembling the vanity/sink with obiterating it with a reciprocating saw? And if not, can it be done without destroying the solid surface counter top?

Thanks

Are you sure that this was the "stock" holding tank? I doubt that it was. Check around and see if there are any signs of another place where there may have been one.

One of the other owners should be able to help you on this one.

I suggest that you get Ms. Peggie's book before you install a new unit. You may also want to consider a Purasan or Electrosan units too.

I have the same boat and the location is original but my aluminium tank is a lot larger than 6 gallons.

My guess...

The 6 gallon tank was installed by a PO when the factory installed aluminum tank pooped out (pun intended).

Steve, if you check his profile, you'll see that he's in MI, which puts him on one of the Great Lakes, ruling out a treatment device.

I have a 1990 30G. The vanity comes all apart, the front facing comes off, leaving the countertop intact. It shouldn't be a problem getting the tank out.

My tank was removed when I bought my boat, and relocated under the rear bunk, where the batteries were originally. A 12 gallon tank barefully fits in this location. I will probably remove it, and put a much larger tank in the original location.
