I am doing a refit of my Hunter 31 this Winter. Among the many projects is the installation of Air Conditioning. Before I go into detail regarding the plan and get your comments, the first thing I need is a good, ballpark idea of what the interior cubic foot measurement to size the BTUs. LXWXH isn't going to cut it because of all the curves and small areas. Any ideas? Dave Calico Sky 2

I would just ask the other H31 owners out there what kind and size of a unit they have and if does a good job keeping the boat cool. I'm interested too because I'd like to put A/C and heat in my '84 H31 also. What other projects are you planning on? I just replaced the head, pulled out the original water heater, diesel tank and sealed the holding tank.

Other refits
I am replacing the water heater and all associated fresh water tubing as wella s the galley and head fixtures. I am replacing the head and re-working the salon table - I have the horseshoe salon - by maikng it collapse to accomodate more berth area. I'm having all the cushions re-made with closed-cell foam, I'm running a new sound system and some new electronics and some dck lights. Also, I experimented with an exhaust extention through the summer last year by jammin a piece of PVC into the exhaust through-hull to expell the smoke about 8 inches farther behind the boat. It helped tremendously with transom staining and didn't seem to decrease performance at all, so I'm making it semi-permanent. I have to replace the bilge (my bilge failed at the same time that my stuffing box gave way leading to the whole vessel taking on almost 2 feet of water this fall... I have some fiberglass work to attend to on the bow and the stern. I'm relpacing a couple of life-lines. I'm painting the hull and re-woring the vinyl striping.

i just installed a unit in my hunter 30. Tried the crusie air but it didnt do the job in my climate. The unit i installed is 16000 BTU heat and cool from oceanbreeze. current draw is abt 10.5 amps and it went in my hanging locker. With high humidity and temps in high 80's and low 90's , I am very comfortable below. Unit runs very quiet and runs fine on honda 2000 generator for crusing and anchoring out. total cost including haul out was under $1500.00 . Un it came very complete for do-it yourself install. Customer support was EXCELLENT even before the purchase.

This is very interesting. I don't get the prices though. The cheapest model appears to be $1300 plus $200 for heat plus $250 for installation kit. $1750 Is that the model you installed? Where is the through hull? Would love some photos of your installation. calico sky: We also have the horseshoe dinette. How are you making it dropable? Also, what shape was PVC extension you used on the exhaust? My exhaust is under water and I worry about the back-pressure that is causing. And it would be nice to be able to see water in our exhaust.
