I was looking to replace some worn out sheaves on my deck organizers and I cannot, for the life of me, find the backing plates / nuts that secure them. I measured from the saloon hatch and placed them in an unaccessable (that I know of) portion of the headliner. Has anyone else ever had this problem? How did / do you access them? I guess I could cut an access in the headliner, but don't want to do all that if I don't have to. Another question: How many lines does anyone run back to the cockpit? I have spinlocks for three lines per side, but my deck organizers are only double sheaved. Any / All Ideas and responses are appreciated! Fair winds! R. Skipworth H34 "Enchantress"

Shaeffer deck organizer doubles

I just installed single line reefing on our 1985 H34. This required two more lines. The old Shaeffer fitting can simply be unscrewed. The nut is glassed in below and won't turn or fall out. I used a Sears Philips head socket to get more torque than a screw driver provides. I put in a two-layer Shaeffer fitting with four sheaves. (Purchased at Defender Industries) It goes in the same holes. The upper lines chaffe a bit on the fiberglass cover, but as the reefing lines are not used often, I don't think it will be a problem. I replace the old spinlock with a new quad Garhaur unit and have been happy with it. Replacing the stopper also allow relocation to starboard and forward so that the halyard and sheet lead fair to the winch. So far the single line reef has worked well. We don't have to leave the cockpit and the time to reef is half of what was previously required.

Don't know if construction is the same but I used to have a 28.5 and it had a 1/4 inch piece of aluminum sandwich in the core. I replace the 2 sheaves deck organizers with triples by simply drilling 1/4 inch holes where required for the new organizers and then tapped the aluminum for the proper size bolts. Then plugged up the previous holes and voila, problem was solved. Suggest you contact Hunterv to find out if you can do it on the 34. Good Luck

Same experience here, removed my old worn out organizers and fitted quads (double stacked) to bring all lines (8)back into the cockpit. Just drilled holes into the aluminum sandwich and tapped for the 1/4 inch screws. Was able to use one original hole on each side, so filled the redundant ones which were then covered up by the new organizers.
