86 H23 CDI furler/forestay question

Hi all,

Been lurking for a while, finally signed up.

Picked up a 86 H23 last summer in ok shape but needing several things.

PO said it once had a furler but it didnt come with one. I raised the mast to check all the standing rigging (another thread for that one!) and the forestay turnbuckle attaches to the stem inside the anchor locker.

I purchased a used CDI (larger size for this boat), I think its an FF5 or 6. I can cut down the track to size and I think it will be fine, just a larger than normal drum.

How do I install the furler when the turnbuckle is below the deck?

The anchor locker has 2 doors and there is a section cut out so it can pass through. I'll get a pic when I get home.

I expect you could use tangs to keep the drum above the deck yet connect to the stem below deck. I'm not familiar with the CDI system so that's about all I can offer.

Have you raised the jib(s) yet? If you add a drum where there wasn’t one I assume the sail would need to be re-cut. And the forestay would need to be shortened.

I have not. I did measure the sail and it appears to be the correct luff length but I will be replacing the sails anyway. I figured I'd have to shorten the forestay.

The boat took an CDI FF2 system. The furler was above the deck There is two tangs attached to the bottom of the forestay with the other end attached to a bow eye located in the anchor well. Look up under boat information for your boat which is a hunter 23 wing keel. Then post you’re questioning
