Hello,
I'll start by thanking everyone who can help as I bring this project back to the "seaworthy" stage and look forward to sailing next spring.
First of all, I still consider myself a rookie with a couple years with a Tanzer 16 daysailer, all on a local "pond". I have been looking for something to overnite on (2kids) and keep in or on the water. Looking at my optoins I thought...trailersailor!
So my evenings have been spent looking at craigslist & ebay. I have a retired gent up the street that relocated from Cape Cod (McGregor25) and he helped inspire me with the thought of the end of season bargains that are available in NewEngland.
Last Sunday I find this Hunter 20 on CL. Not R.I. or Maine but my local Western Mass.
And it's all of 5 minutes from my house!
The gent never had her in the water, thought he'd learn to sail. Just never did and now his wife wanted it gone. The swing keel is out but there is no damage to the trunk and it looks as if a new pin was installed. The boat is very sound...was very dirty but just about all there. The main is perfect(kept in the garage) the jib was arodent snack(kept in v-berth) but servicable. It has all the standing rig but no running aside for the jib & main haylards.
The boom is missing the swivel attachment to the mast, blocks,et...
The factory trailer is in great shape and looking at the reg, it looks like it was last in the water in 2000. Not much use!?
Here's the great news...it was FREE! His wife really wanted it gone!
So what I need help with is...
1) all the main sheet running/plans What blocks, size line. No traveler like on my Tanzer and I can't find plans from the factory or online.
2) with the condition of the jib I think I can justify a roller furling, so would love to hear from others who have done this upgrade to my or like boats.
3) I have read that some owners have installed a pulley to assist the keel winch, but couldn't find any threads?
4) Any other owner upgrades including electrical and or performance.
Again THANK YOU and I'm really looking forward to this new stage of "yachting"!
