83 Yanmar 2GMF Fuel Filters

Ive had similar problems another Hunter owner has had with the rpm's dying and then an engine stall after running the engine for 3 hours with no problems? With the 1984 Hunter 31' how many fuel filters are there with a standard factory set up? Is their a filter in the gas tank and if so how do get to it? Thanks,Richard

Screen filter

Richard:The factory setup was a screen in the tank, a fram primary fuel filter and the yanmar engine filter.I think that if you remove the fuel pick-up tube you will see that there is a screen on the end of the pick-up tube. Many of the owners have removed this screen. It seems like this is a good pre-filter but maybe the hassel of removing the tube is not worth it.Assuming that your fuel is dirty. After you get the tank cleaned out as good as possible be sure that you ALWAYS use a biocide in your fuel when you refuel.

Fuel filters

When we bought our '86 H31 in 1989 we installed a Racor primary filter in the fuel line from the tank. We change the filter element every year and have had no dirty fuel problems in 11 years.
