I bought a 1983 Hunter 19 this winter and its my first boat. It came from ebay so as-is. It looks complete but cabin, cockpit and bilge were very full of ice. I'm only now getting it drained. The wood panels in the cabin that give access to the keel pin holder were rotted, but maybe the hardware is okay. I plan to float it above the trailer and look down through this panel into the bilge to see if water comes in. Is this a good plan?
Also I keep reading about a water ballast for the hunter19, but maybe that's for the later models? I don't think this 1983 hunter 19 has a water ballast. If it does then I have no idea how it works. I saw a plug low on the transom, but I think that's just tilt the trailer and drain the bilge. I'm pretty sure that if I opened that plug the cabin would flood.
Thanks for any help. Matt
