I have heard that the last year Hunter Marine build the Cherubini 33 was 1982 and that the 1983 models were built by some Hunter employes who bought the moulds from hunter and built the boat under the Qwest name. Is this true? If so, how does the quality and workmanship compare with the 83 model and the earlier models built by Hunter? Thanks, Paul

Hi, Paul

Sorry, I don't have any info to provide you regarding Hunter 33's, since I have an '82 H25. I'm sort of surprised you didn't get any pertinent responses from other Hunter owners. I'm just responding because of your homeport: Durango, CO. My wife, daughters and I just returned to Texas from a great vacation in your fine city, and we're all hepped up on the idea of retiring to Durango in two years. Where do you sail, especially in a 33 footer? I have absolutely no qualms about retiring there EXCEPT for the sailing issue-- I got's to have me a sailboat to mess around on!

Hello Randall

Hello Randall Don't worry we have great sailing on Navajo Lake about 45 miles SE of Durango on the Colorado / New Mexico border. The lake is about 25 miles long with great wind most of the time. We have a very active sail club with boats from 22 to 38 feet. We presently sail an O'Day 25 but want to move up to a bigger boat and are looking at a Hunter 33. The real problem is finding a trailer big enough to haul a 33 ft. boat. Paul

Hey Paul, I have a 1982...

Hunter 33. Mine was the last year before Hunter switched over to the Hunter 34 and Hunter 31 of a different design. I believe any 33's that look like our older ones were offered as "kit boats" by someone who bought the molds as you suggested in your article. I remember thinking I should have bought a kit since it seemed alot less expensive, but then started adding up all the parts needed for completion and figuired out it was more expensive. Would be interested in seeing several photos of your boat, we have a strong Hunter 33 (77-82) ownership on this site and there are many articles submitted by all. You are in the right place to talk about the Cherubini Hunter 33s. Good luck with your new "old" boat. The 33 is a great design. David S/V "Freebird"
