I recently inherited an inboard model 25 ft Oday that was used gently. The stuffing box is dripping a lot but it is not the hex head type and it is frozen. I treated it with Blaster but is there a special wrench for this? Any other advice?

Ours is the same style. You'll need to loosen the backing nut (the one closer to the engine), then you can tighten the packing nut and back the backing nut down again. We keep a 12" bronze rod that we rest on a lug on the backing nut, then tap the rod with a hammer to loosen the nut. Unfortunately I don't remember which way it's threaded.
Thanks, Davidasailor26, I've got the same set up on my new 272LE. Does the backing nut need to be completely free of threads or just turned loose a minor amount. We are not addressing the packing yet, right? We're just talking about slowing the drip with a little more pressure after retightening, correct? Thanks for any info.
The backing nut just needs to be slightly loose to allow the packing nut to be turned. Then just tightening the packing nut until it's a little more snug should slow the drip. You should make sure that even after you tighten the packing nut, there must still be some amount of drip when the shaft is turning, to keep things cool.
