Hi Gang. I just bought a Cal 2-25 Fin Keel and am looking fwd to sailing her here in the Puget Sound. I've owned quite a mish-mash of different boats in the past and am happy with the purchase. I just wanted some input from others that know about this boat because I don't. Anyone know who designed her..She's a cal-pearson..was this a partnership? Is it the same pearson that built the renegade and triton? Is this a quality boat? I'm happy with it just wanted others opinions and experiences.
ANYONE GOT AN OWNERS MANUAL OR KNOW WHERE I CAN DOWNLOAD ONE??
Thanks in advance,
Stephen

The CAL 2-25 is a fast and easy to sail sailboat designed by Bill Lapworth and built by Jensen Marine in California. Do not confuse the CAL 2-25 with the flat-top CAL 25 of the 1960's. These a vary different boats. The CAL 2-25 is basically a 27-foot sailboat in a nominal 25-foot package (that saves me about $500/year in moorage fees verses a 27-footer). The 22-foot waterline length, 9-foot beam (longer and wider than a Catalina 27), standing headroom, enclosed head and most have a small Yanmar diesel. Empty displacement is about 4,500# with 2,000# of lead encapsulated in the moulded keel. Although they are considered a coastal racer/cruiser, some have crossed the Atlantic and others have gone to Hawaii. Headsail furling and a tiller pilot are very important to me as almost all of my sailing is single-handed. I hope to circumnavigate Vancouver Island in a year or two.

I posted the full CAL 2-25 manual on this site a couple of years ago but it does not work since the site update. I'll try to post it again. Have a look under the CAL 2-25 model specifications.

Thanks Jalapeno! While searching for info I came across your name on a few websites with links that didn't work. Small world eh? (see I speak canadian;) I bought a boat in False Creek 9 years ago and sailed her home. Were neighbors.
One question. I found literature that says it was built by cal, oday and some other brand that were all the same company (this was on the owners manual itself)..then I found literature that says it's Cal-Pearson?? what's the story on this??? Thanks again hope to hear from you soon.
Gnight,
Stephen

The exact history was detailed on the "CAL sailboat owners, British Columbia" web site. Unfortunately MSN dumped all of their user Groups last month and I've lost the link to their new site. I don't remember the exact history details, but I believe that all of the CAL sailboats (short for California) were designed by Bill Lapworth. They were built in California by Jensen Marine until around the early 1980's, then Bangor-Punta took over the company and moved to Florida for a couple of years before moving to somewhere in the north-east US. They built a number of different brands in addition to the CAL's. I think production stopped around 1990. I'll have a look to see if I've got more information.
