Kemah is only around 20 Miles from Houston (I used to sail my Hobie off of Texas City dike near Kemah). He must have had one heck of an adventure to get that far off course.

They don't say where he was coming from as he headed to Kemah.. They mention his family in Houston but getting from Houston to Kemah does not involve going south and east over a 100 miles.. I had seen the note in the Baton Rouge paper too and thought I might get more info but haven't found any.. I wonder too if the Coasties put a guy aboard to take the boat in??

Obviously some misinformation here, or at least partial info.

I am sure an experienced boater did not miss Kemah, Galeveston and sail out into the Gulf by accident.

80 years old and 10 days later, its possible something happened and he got disoriented after he passed Kemah

Yes, they messed this story up pretty well and it's still confusing. It was a 30 ft boat and he's 75 to begin with. I live in the houston area and heard it on several news broadcasts. Most importantly, he's ok. I saw him interviewed and he seemed to be a tough, spirited old guy. He got cold, bumped his head a few times and became disoriented. His motor was also beginning to fail...whatever that means. About his destination... he mentioned he was headed to Mexico and would try it again with a crewperson after he found his boat. They also said it was about 20 miles off Sabine pass which would be maybe 50 feet of water. I guess they left it anchored. Anyway, just more info from the local news broadcasts.

Gentlemen, if you want to especulate how about this; The man left Houston in his 2009 Caddy (poor sailors don't have EPIRBs) he told his family he was headed for Keemah as that is where he had left the boat but he failed to mention he was going first to visit a senorita accross the border. After a week of partying hard he figured he better go pick up his boat and sail somewhere. A couple off days into his trip he was experiencing a burning sensation while urinating overboard and he decided to call for rescue. After a quick diagnosis and some "vitamin" shots he went out to go get his boat which was towed by private towing company summoned by the USCG. He had no worries as he had Medicare and unlimited tow insurance. It was either that or he overshot Kemmah while playing with his laptop checking out the health care debates.

Update, Update....

Benny, the boat has been found and he was headed to Mexico on the boat and will go again with a crewperson. I think you should volunteer and keep the log.

Yes, they had him on the local news again today and theressssss your update.

Later update....

Just heard this update on the local news. He is out of, but was put into the VA hospital with a concussion and his boat was found adrift 250 miles away from Galveston in the Gulf.

Sounds better than telling your wife you're going hiking in the Appalachians.

caguy: She misunderstood: Appalachian Trail sounds a lot like Argentinian Tail.
