I am interested in buying a 1980 catalina 30', however, it is not clear as to the condition of the boat that is expected from Great Lakes usage. In other words, what can I expect from normal usage relative to condition. Moisture in the deck, musty smell in the cabin, crazing of the deck, etc..... Looking to put things in perspective relative to survey results.

Boats in fresh water tend to get blisters more. They're usually not structural but small & irritating, nonetheless. You might walk around your local marinas and look at older C30s to get an idea of what the condition might be. Impossible for us to tell you cuz we don't know what kind of upgrades the PO made, if any. LaDonna

Blisters

I recently purchased a 1984 Catalina 30 that when an out of water survey was done, showed signs of blistering. The surveyor noted them and informed me they were not a serious threat as they were small suface ones. He recommended that when I hauled it out for the winter to soda blast them and let the boat sit for the winter to dry out. In the spring he said to put several coats of sealer and bottom paint and it should be fine.
