I saw one back in 1990 or so with 5-200 hp outboards. It was an ex-drug boat. The present owner was the U.S. Customs service. They would leave the Stock Island marina at about 2:00 am along with a Fountain speedboat (1000 hp inboard) to be out with the drug running crowd.
Bill
Metro police Marine unit here tool s around in a RIB with 2x250 and it is plenty fast. I saw a PWC try and outrun them to the harbour limits one day, they kind of throttled back in disbelief then hit it. They were on him in no time and he gave up.
The first time I saw this, I thought it was some pretty good photo shop work. Apparently not. I sure don't want to run any drugs, but I would like a ride in one of them there puppys.
Although I did ride in a guides boat last year, 23' Champion CC, with a 300 Yammie, that would run a tick over 70 on the GPS.
Was in Palm Beach area during thanksgiving and was invited on a new 36 foot Center Console with 3 350's. Speedomoter read 61 MPH (not Knots) on the open water. The owner told me that he had it up to 72MPH three days prior when he took delivery.
I guess that they don't require break in - or he didn't give a hoot.
IMHO not much fun. It took a lot of energy to hold myself down.
My son was on the seat in front of the center console and was basically pinned against it.
