I've made a few changes on my 78 Hunter 30 that I think are improvements. All the batteries are now under the starboard seat in the cockpit area. Easy to access and maintain. I put in a Poly diesel tank larger than the original metal tank, fills up the whole area. Won't have to worry about water and alge in the fuel now. I also installed new circuit break panels A/C and D/C next to the hull right on top of the nav station. Don't understnad why anyone would put all the power so low in the boat, if you took on water everything would short out? When I had the mast down I welded the mast step shut, there was a cut out in the middle, and welded an 8" long conduit for wiring. No longer have wires coming out the side of the mast. I also cut out the area around the mast step down to the cabin liner and filled it in with heavy glass mat. I replaced the iron I beam with a SS one of the same size. Also install mag veneer in the cabin, turned out very nice. The original teak turned very dark with the polyurin finish and the walls lite mag. Got a very nice two tone effect. New sails, rigging and profurl. I'm also sold on the Poly Glow system and the two part apoxy for deck paint. One part was a waist of time and money. It goes on and on.. I like the boat, got to go sailing now..

My 1983 H30 has it's electric panel up high next to the nav station. The batteries are under the aft berth it works good. I think it came from the factory like that since there were no holes down low except for the battery switch. I'd be kicking the circuit breakers every time i sat at the nav station. Your other upgrades sound great, Did you take any pic's? please post if you did.

Diesel tank?

What was the brand name of the tank you used? I assume it was one of the new style with a biocide built into the polymer. About to pull my boat for some work and would like to do the same. Great idea with the batteries, I've been thinking about pulling my water heater since it's never used anyway. I would like to see some pics of the mast step work if you have them, may have to do some work in that area myself. Since we always just go to sail and not sit at the dock, I removed the fridge last year and made storage area for guest carry-ons. Turned out to be a much better use for the space; we pretty much always used the ice box anyway.

Diesel Tank H30

'bryan@oceanlinkinc.com' Tank source. Very pleased with it. They even have the fill tube at an angle so you don't have to do a 90 degree in tight space with the fill hose... Right now I'm redoing the galley, will post pics when completed. I don't like the lift up step above the engine. Its still in the way. Would rather have something I could remove all together, better access to the engine. Water heater, I'm sold on the demand types. They've got 110v now I think?. Also the 5 gal ones in a sqaure suit case like package at Lowes appear to be a good solution. tks
