Oday 25 Tall Rig Fin Keel Chesapeake - Middle River, Md
Just viewed the boat I'm considering. She appears in great shape and is really clean and dry. Gelcoat is in great shape. Has a Vire 7 gas 2 stroke with what appears to be the original metal gas tank. Roller furling genoa and good condition main (needs a few new sail slides, comes with lots of equipment including spinnaker with pole, electronics, alcohol and electric burner with shore power cable, dodger with clear plastic. No soft spots in deck or cockpit, no delamination of rudder, fittings for rudder look in good shape with no obvious wear. Wished it had a diesel instead....however looks very well maintained, even has original manuals. Is dry as a bone below even after three days of rain. Bulkhead is dry and strong, chainplate attachment appears in good shape
The visit spawned several questions. The fin keel appears in great shape but has a horizontal seam about 12" below where the keel joins the hull. Do other fin keel owners have this same seam? Also there is about a 1/32nd play in the prop shaft as it passes through the strut....is this normal or is it a sign that the strut is in need of repair Third and final question is the hull and desk including transon appear very solid, no soft spots at all and very little crazing(spider cracks in gelcoat). Can someone confirm what part of the boat is solid glass and what is balsa cored? Any thing else I should be looking at? Owner is asking $2500. Thanks for all your comments.
Also would welcome any insurance advice? type of policy and coverage? any preferred companies?

25 hundred? no way...ive spent more than that just rebuilding mine in parts and materials, and that is without new lines or sails yet. the keel must be about to fall off...joke (i hope)

Hull is solid glass, horizontal surfaces of the deck are balsa-core. The keel seam looks pretty much normal for 32 year old boat. I'd worry if I saw any evidence of moisture seeping out or if the keel bolts are loose, but if everything is solid it should be fine. Did you have the boat surveyed? That could give you answers on that seam.
Obviously, the area around the deck fittings should be checked for any moisture in the core.
